Teaching in Action
I have experience teaching within the Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate, as well as within the American public school system. I have extensive experience using portfolio and holistic assessment, as well as using formative assessments to inform instruction.
My particular area of interest is in differentiating instruction for students of all language abilities and learning strengths and challenges. I believe strongly that all students can learn. While I believe there is no "silver bullet" solution, I believe that we reach students best through a combination of strong core instruction, creating strong and respectful interpersonal relationships, and knowing our curriculum and our students well.
I enjoy being a member of a teaching community in which colleagues collaborate together to advance both student as well as professional learning. I greatly enjoy the collaborative planning process and the dynamic which comes from working within a team. I have worked both as a classroom teacher and as a specialist support teacher. Currently, I am co-teaching science and English classes.
I am a comfortable user and early adopter of technology. This includes technology as a means to advance student learning, as well as technology tools used for productivity or curriculum development.
